The League Announces New Board Members for 2022
Harrisburg, PA (January 13, 2022) — The Pennsylvania Municipal League is pleased to announce ten new Board members to help support the association’s mission to strengthen, empower and advocate for effective local government.
The League is excited to add the fresh perspective of the new Board members with the experience and knowledge of our current members as we work to move the association and Pennsylvania municipalities forward. The new Board members, who are local elected and appointed officials from across the state, have been appointed to positions vacated by municipal officials leaving office or who were no longer able to serve. New League Board members are:
- Christopher Christman, Manager, Derry Township; director-at-large
- Patricia DeMarco, Council Vice President, Forest Hills Borough; director-at-large
- Joe Fleming, Manager, St. Marys; director-at-large
- Rita Frealing, Mayor, Gettysburg Borough; director-at-large
- Ed Gainey, Mayor, Pittsburgh; large municipality representative
- Mary Ann Horne, Councilmember, Edinboro; northwest district representative
- Ezra Nanes, Mayor, State College Borough; director-at-large
- J. William Reynolds, Mayor, Bethlehem; large municipality representative
- Matt Tuerk, Mayor, Allentown; large municipality representative
- Peter Urscheler, Mayor, Phoenixville Borough; southeast district representative
“I too am excited about incoming board members who represent communities across the Commonwealth,” said League President Mayor Danene Sorace, Lancaster. “I’m particularly excited to have five newly elected mayors stepping up to serve on the board.”
The League is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization established in 1900 as an advocate for Pennsylvania’s 3rd class cities. Today, The League represents Pennsylvania cities, boroughs, townships, home rule communities and towns that all share their municipal policy interests. The Board oversees the administration of a wide array of municipal services including legislative advocacy (on both the state and federal levels), publications designed to educate and inform, inquiry and research, education and training certification programs, consulting-based programs, and group insurance trusts.
“We are excited to welcome a great group of engaged leaders to our Board of Directors,” said League Executive Director John S. Brenner. “Following the local elections throughout the Commonwealth this past fall, an outstanding contingent of talented and diverse elected officials have now been sworn in and are leading their communities.”
